Current Status of Neighborhood Watch Program
![]() |
As you know, we have been trying for years to get a ‘formal’ neighborhood watch program kicked off at Rock Springs Ridge. At the Annual Business Meeting on April 6th, we put out a sign-up sheet for more volunteers, but so far, the NWP distribution list only has around 30 names with only 14 people who want to be block captains. At the Annual Meeting, Chief Vavrek indicated that we would need a minimum of 20 percent of homeowners (about 200 volunteers) to start a effective program. In the upcoming RSR HOA newsletter, we will continue to seek additional volunteers. When we do get the minimum number of volunteers, we will set up a meeting of participants with Officer Popp to formally get the program underway. The RSR HOA Events Committee was going to plan a 'Safety Awareness Fair Event' in Spring/Summer 2010 where we will continue to get the minimum number of volunteers to kick-off a formal neighborhood watch program. If you are interested in volunteering to help plan this event, contact the RSR HOA Events Committee Co-Chairs: Karen Schwering & Alice Jacobs. In the meantime, we encourage residents to be alert to suspicious activities and report them to the Apopka Police Department. Calls to 911 will be responded to immediately and, for non-emergency calls, the Apopka Police Department number is (407) 703-1771.
