RSR Neighborhood Watch Program

Current Status of Neighborhood Watch Program

As you know, we have been trying for years to get a ‘formal’ neighborhood watch program kicked off at Rock Springs Ridge. At the Annual Business Meeting on April 6th,  we put out a sign-up sheet for more volunteers, but so far, the NWP distribution list only has around 30 names with only 14 people who want to be block captains. At the Annual Meeting, Chief Vavrek indicated that we would need a minimum of 20 percent of homeowners (about 200 volunteers) to start a effective program.  In the upcoming RSR HOA newsletter, we will continue to seek additional volunteers. When we do get the minimum number of volunteers, we will set up a meeting of participants with Officer Popp to formally get the program underway.

The RSR HOA Events Committee was going to plan a 'Safety Awareness Fair Event' in Spring/Summer 2010 where we will continue to get the minimum number of volunteers to kick-off a formal neighborhood watch program.  If you are interested in volunteering to help plan this event, contact the RSR HOA Events Committee Co-Chairs:  Karen Schwering & Alice Jacobs.

In the meantime, we encourage residents to be alert to suspicious activities and report them to the Apopka Police Department.  Calls to 911 will be responded to immediately and, for non-emergency calls, the Apopka Police Department number is (407) 703-1771.

“Neighbors watching out for neighbors” is an important aspect of keeping our community safe and we encourage everyone to remain alert to and report any suspicious activity.  Our thanks go out to those who have volunteered to participate in the program and we hope you will continue to help keep our community safe and participate fully in the program as soon as possible.

Keep checking back for some information to be supplied by  the Apopka Police Department to help us keep our community safe.

Please Help by Volunteering to Support the RSR Neighborhood Watch Program
Rich Kuntz is taking over as the RSR Neighborhood Watch Program Chairperson.

We are still looking for additional support for our Neighbor Watch Program here in Rock Springs Ridge. We need one Block Captain for every 10 or 12 houses. Being a Block Captain is fairly easy. For the most part, you will serve as the main source for communication for your block. Then, we ask that you share this information with your block. You can go door-to-door, use the phone, or even email your neighbors if that is more convenient.

The main purpose of the Neighbor Watch Program is Crime Prevention. Most crimes in neighborhoods such as ours are crimes of opportunities. Criminals like to work anonymously. If they feel they are being watched, they will usually move to an area where they can carry out their crimes without being seen.

These Neighborhood Watch programs work well and are being used all over the country as a very effective means of crime prevention.

To volunteer to be the Chairperson, or a Block Captain, or if you just what more information regarding the program, call Rich Kuntz on his cell phone at (407) 404-3311 or home phone at (407) 814-1987 or via email Rich at rich@rich-kuntz.com .  Please provide the following information: your name, address, telephone number(s), and email address.
